The Jack Russell Race Is Back - Do You Have What It Takes?

The renowned Jack Russell Race is back for 2023 and it is time to crown a new champion!

K9 Natural is proud to once again be the official sponsor of the annual Jack Russell Race; a drawcard of the Wānaka A&P Show since 1998. However, for the first time in six years, the title is well and truly up for grabs.

For the past six years, Harry Buchanan has shown the competition exactly what it takes to earn the title of Top Dog - becoming the most decorated dog in Jack Russell Race history. Although Harry’s owner, Samara Buchanan, claims there is no secret to Harry’s winning streak, it’s clear that he knows what he is doing; being the only dog to not cut any corners and finish the race in its entirety.

However, like all sporting champions, the time comes when the torch must be passed to the next generation as well as the esteemed title of Wānaka A&P Show Jack Russell Race Champion, leaving the spot of fan favourite well and truly up for grabs for the 2023 race.

So, what does it take to be the next Harry and claim the spot of Top Dog?

Short, fat, tall or small, the race is open to all Jack Russell breeds, giving them the floor to show off their athletic ability to hundreds of attendees. Despite the large turnout, months of intense training are not required for the Jack Russell Race – once the entrants are lined up in the arena, the naturally adventurous terriers are ready to race.

Registration are not necessary to compete, but all formal entrants receive a complementary pre-race kit and go in the draw to win one of many spot prizes. The fastest three dogs will also take home a gift basket full with K9 Natural food, treats and many other exciting goodies. Don’t have a Jack Russell to enter the race? We’ll have goodie bags for you too, stand H27 next to the Main Ring.
